There is a madness to cities that keeps us all sane, pushing us to the safety of our own little worlds.
A million and one voices all chattering together as a billion thoughts are unfurled.
A stream of consciousness, flowing through streets.
Unknowable, complex, mundane.
Each person’s mind, individually, sacred.
Together, en masse, profane.
Everyone thinks they’re the hero of a tale.
By their id, they would gladly be bound.
But, amidst such a fast-flowing river of souls, the lie of that myth is found.
There’s a madness to cities that keeps us all sane.
Reminds us that we’re not alone.
There’s safety in numbers, or so it is said.
There’s no need to be on our own.
